Ercole
Then let us hasten! Came you not with us, Filippo?
Filippo
there -- with you?
(throws up his eyes) as if thinking what would happen
if he went there)
Lucrezis
(near Filippo)
Listen to my vow, before I leave you, Filippo —
As you have doubted the truth of my words, I swear -
Isabella
I could have wagered,
That she would Hvear to something! She always does!
Lucrezia
That never more,
Shall any youth embrace me, or it shall be his last day here,
upon this earth! Farewell!
(Exeunt Lucrezia, Isabella, Eroole and the musicians
L.)
Filippo
(alone, and greatly excited)
They celebrate her weedding with the Duke,
while I'm awaiting her return. From me
But scarcely psrted – on her homeward way,
She meets poor Vittorino — and premises
To wed the hapless youth, who proudly leads
Her to the church — But to surrender her
In turn, to My Lord Duke – who erstwhile won
Her favor in a dream. The almost ground
Deserted and heartbroken dies, while I......
I await her coming. She, like youder stars,
Which measure in a moment, heaven s space
Has compassad the whole world since eventide
while I do wait — and wait!
(door R. open and Andrea enters. Filippo goes to him
quickly and continues to speak with great Leatation)
Andrea, do you come at last! — I beg
You stay not your just with. Impatiently
I wait here for the end.
