Moses, contained "The Lonely way". "The Gallant Cassian" trans¬
lated by M.A.Jagendorf in 1912, and "The Vast Domain" tranolated
be E.Wotichy and 4.Caro in 1923 were the last playe by Schnitzler
that Poet Lore printed. The only play to be published in 1025
was "The Festival of Beechus" which had twice before appesred in
point (1) and was now ablected for shay's volume of Twenty-five
klep¬ Flays. "The Vast Domain" (1923) was the last play to be
translated. The playe published after 1923 were reprints of for-
mer translations.
There are four dramatic productions which have not yet been
mentioned. Back in 1910, the year of Mrs. Fiske's production of
The Green Sockatoo, the Schuberts gave Märchen at the Garrick
Theater in Chicago. The English version was by Hina Lewton, and
Mme. Nazimove played the role of Fanny, Äshton Stevens said in

Percy Hemmond reported in the Chicago Tribune of the same day.
"As a play it was rather well done, save in the last act, when
the discussion is wordy and about things Inconsequontial. The
audience was very receptive.” For seven years after 1910, when
Playing with love was at the Lyceum, no word of Schnitzler's was
heard from the America stage. Then on Saturday, January 20, 1923
the Triangle Theater, a small jxperimental Theater in Greenwich
Village, opened and gave as its very first performance The Gallant
Cassian. Schnitzler admirers must have felt a bit proud that
their favorite was chosen for the first performand of the new
theater. Naturally, every (i)rector coosiders many plays before
he makes his final choice, but how much more carefully must he
