In 1927 "Flovers", a story which had already appeared in
Vienne Idylls (1913), was selected by M.Lieber and Blanche
Colton Williams as one of the Great Stories of all nations, a
volume published by Brentano's.

A. Theresa
The two 1928 bblications of Schnitzler's works by Simon
and Schuster were Professor Bernhardi and Theresa, the Chroniole
of a woman's Life. In the case of Fraulein Else and Rhapsody the
English translation had come one year after the German publica
tion, now in the case of Theress the two come almost simultane-
ously.desyone was anxious to read Therese since it was the first
full-longth novel Schnitzler had written in twenty years, but
many felt it came as a distinct disappointment after Rhapsody
and Daybrak and that it was not as good as Fraulein Elee.
Crities generally commend the novel as being "a powerful study" (2)
but complain that it is too long and that there is too much repe-
tition. As a matter of fact, some of the reviews of Theresa were
in direct contradiction to others. Malcom Crowley said "skillfully
translated”, (3) “3 reviewer in Cleveland said, ”The translation is
excellent," (4) one in New York City said, "Ably translated," (5)
It is done into
the Winter number of the Yale Review (1928) said,
but Robert O. Ballon said the taaslation is
excellent English,
ʒawkward and frequently even ungrammatical.” (6) Eevertheless he
