Statement.
The defendants were arraigned in this court on
the 26th day of August, 1930, charged with the pos¬
session and sale of an allegedly obscene book en¬
titled -Casanova’s Homecoming.? The complain¬
ant was John S. Sumner, Secretary of the New
York Society for the Suppression of Vice.
Casanova’s Homecoming“’ was published by
Simon and Schuster, the publishers of such im¬
portant contributions to modern thought as The
Story of Philosophy, by Will Durant, and The
Art of Thinking,?’ by Abbe Dimnet. The book has
been widely distributed in this state and elsewhere
