B) ARTHUR SCHNITZLER
Author of (asanora's Homecoming
AR. GRAESLER is a physician ar a health resort, a
man past the heedless enthusiasms of youth, yer
one who has preserved deeply within him the dim
trust in an ideal. Something has eluded him so far in
life, something infinitely beautital, perhaps, and he goes
in scarch of it. It is a wife that he secks, a woman who
can give him love and a measure of happiness. But he
is wise and his gentle ironic wisdom warns him to ex¬
pect little. And yer these things await him, almost for
his choosing, it would scemn. What will be the outcome
of his scarch? What sort of woman is she at whose
fect he will lay his hopes? Will he be swayed by his
mature judgement or the capricious yearnings buricd
wichin him? The drama of his choice, this man of
science with a heart of youth unsatisfied, is the story of
Dr. Graesler.
Arthur Schnitzler is above all a story-teller. He has
the simplicity and restramt that is of all chings the most
difficult to achievc. And to Dr. Greser he has broughe
that wizard-like quality which made Cmsanora'e Homerom¬
lng so real and vivid and moving.
