Garden of the Count’s villa. High lattice work in back. Gate
slightly to the right. left forward, the façade of the two-

storied villa, that at one time was a hunting-ledge-- built
180 years before, lrenovated 50 years before. A shallow ter¬
race from which three imbrs-stairs lead into the garden, ex¬
tends along the raised ground floor. An open class door
leads from the terrace into the drawing-room. The main floor
has simpleussindows; over the second floor is a small flower-
adorned balcony that belong to a sort of attic studio. Be¬
fore the villa is a laws withelower-beds. Right forward,
under a tree, are a garden-bench, small table and arm chair.
(enters from right with servant. He is an elderly gentleman
with pray moustache; very wellogreserved, in carriage and

Servant: And at what hour would your honor like luncheon
tyday.
Count: (Speaks an officer's dialect. Light's a large vigar)
two o'clock.
Servant: And at what time shall the horses be ready, your
honor?
Countess: (appears on the balcony, palette andébrush in hand.
She calls down) Good morning, Papa.
Count: Hello, there, Mizzi.
