ance is that the play was fictionised by Gladys Hall and pub-
lished in motion picture classio in June, 1921. At various times
acensa from the play were reprinted in Magazines, as for ex-
emple: "4 Christmas Present" and "An Episode" in Internationale
of lull, and some seenes from Anatol in The Green Book of
November 1912. In 1917 the entire play was included in a volume
of the peodem Library Series cntitlod Anatol: Livins Kours: The
Graen Gockatoe. In the reviews of this last publication we find
special guess on the fact that the playe are not immoral but
rether. "Unmoral as the playe are, ringing their s[l]ight changes
on one eternal thome, they are saved from coarseness by their
light touch, their wit, a gey artistry that keeps them from
ugliness." (1)
4. The history of Liebele###
In August 1912 Light-o' -Leve, that play which was the first of
Schnitzler's playe to be given in English in the Waited States
in
and was also most frequently produced, was published in The Cram¬
Ihree months later, as we already know, it was produced in
German at the Irving Place Theater, but by this time it had al-
ready been presented twice in English, once in 1905 when, under
the name Flirtation, it was played by theoudressive Stego
Society in New York City, and once in 1907 when, under the name
The Leekoning, it was produced by Kathorina Grey at the Berkey
Lyceum. This play was hastined to be produced teice again, but
with the name Elayins with love. The first of these performances
was in March, 1916 at the Lyceum and the second had its opening
