Comfortable, but modestly furnished room in which
Margaret lives. A small fire-place, a table, a small
writing table, an arm chair, a cabinet, two windows
in backward, doors right and left. Clemens reclines in
an easy chair by the fire. He is dressed in a very
spart sack suit. He smokes aselarett and reads
the paper.jearet stands at the window, then walka
back and forth, causes behind Clemens and runs her
fingers through his hair. She seems somewhat oneasy.
Clemens continues reading, takes her hand and kisses it
Horner is sure of his game, or rather, my game; Waterloe
five to one, Barometer twenty-to- one, Busserl seven to ono,
Attila sixteen to one,
MARGARET: Sixteen to one!
CLEMENS: Lord Byron one and a half to one; that is ours, my
dear.
MARGARET: I know.
CLEMENS: At that we still have six weeks before the race.
